Module One: Building Better Work Relationships

Recognizing and understanding your communication style and the style of others. This module uses a practical and nonjudgmental self-assessment tool that enables you to understand yourself and discover some information about your preferred work habits and skills. It is especially helpful in understanding how you interact with others. You also learn some specific applications for optimizing your behaviors in the areas of problem solving and conflict.

Topics Include:

  • Identifying your communication style and their effect on you and others
  • Making constructive use of individual differences to work effectively with others
  • Exploring ways to communicate effectively with others who display different type preferences
  • Understanding the four temperaments defined by the type preferences
  • Identifying the dominant function and understanding how it may impact your behavior

Module Two: Making Your Ideas Matter in a Group Setting

Making statements and giving opinions in a group setting can be difficult because you may not be in a leadership position or you fear judgment or rejection. Some of your most important communication will take place in one group or another. It is estimated that over 11 million meetings are held each day and that at least 40 percent of your work life will be spent attending group meetings and conferences. This module provides powerful communication tools from speaking to evoking action and commitment, to listening for understanding and collaboration. 

Topics Include:

  • Checking assumptions.
  • Changing Self Discounting Statements to Self Empowering Statements
  • Recognizing the impact of Verbal communication.
    • Ask questions which help clarify the speaker's thoughts. 
    •  Verify what the speaker is saying by paraphrasing or repeating key parts in your own words.
    • Summarize the key points.
  • Use of templates to present and explore ideas 
    • Presenting Your Ideas AND Allowing Others a Chance to Explore Your Idea
    • Asking Others To Explain Their Idea AND Understanding Others Ideas 
    • Disagreeing Without Creating an Enemy
