Before the Interview
- Research the employer/company.
- Find out what type of interview you should expect - one-on-one, panel, behavioural, etc.
- Ensure you have the address where the interview is taking place.
- Confirm the name(s) of the interviewer(s) you are to be meeting with.
- Review your resume and any information you may have come across during your research.
- Anticipate potential interview questions and prepare your answers; always expect the question you would least like to answer.
- Prepare questions you would like to have answered about the company and the position.
- Allow plenty of time for your interview; you don't want to be so pressed for time that you rush the interview.
- Ensure a professional first impression.
Create a Good First Impression
- Dress professionally.
- Arrive 5 - 10 minutes early for the interview.
- Be confident and smile.
- Make sure your cell phone is turned off and put away prior to entering the office.
- Do not bring coffee with you; if you are offered a drink, feel free to accept.
- Do not chew gum, have food with you or bring anything else with you that will be distracting to the interviewers.
- Be pleasant, sincere and honest with everyone.
- When meeting the interviewer(s) for the first time, introduce yourself, make eye contact and shake hands firmly.
- Focus on selling yourself and showing what benefit you can bring to the company.
After the Interview
- If you are interviewing through Mark Staffing, be sure to contact your Staffing Specialist immediately to give them your feedback on how the interview went.
- Be sure to write a thank you note/email to the interviewer(s) that same day. Your Staffing Specialist can provide you with the client's contact information if necessary.
- Continue your job search efforts until you have an offer in hand in order to maximize your options.
- If interviewing for a position on your own, feel free to follow up with the interviewer(s) if they have not contacted you by the date they originally indicated.
